Summer is heating up with temps in the 90s across the South, and things are heating up for my book events in the coming month, starting tomorrow night.
June 24
Katrina Byrd’s Literary Salon with writers affected by ALS has been rescheduled for June 24 at 7pm. The event will be online on Zoom. To get the link, register for free. I’ll read my poem “Breathe,” written for my father-in-law, along with one or two other poems. Katrina is a tireless advocate for ALS research and support, and she has put together a wonderful network of writers. This promises to be a moving evening!
July 1
Friendly City Books is hosting a poetry book club on Discord. Contact Friendly City Books if you’d like to join. They’ve been reading Tree Fall with Birdsong, and I’ll join in to discuss with them. I haven’t done this kind of format before, so we’ll see how it goes, but I’ll be happy to read poems if that’s what they want and talk about the book. I’m also curious to see what they have to say!
July 10
I’ll be in Osage, Iowa, in early July and will have a reading hosted by The Fine Arts Council of Mitchell County and the Alpha Writers. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see folks in Osage and the area and celebrate Tree Fall with Birdsong with them. I’ve given readings for each of my books in my home town, and always have a fabulous time. I’m very grateful to both groups for setting this up!
July 24
Finally, on July 24, I’ll head down to Jackson, Mississippi, to do a reading and signing at Lemuria Books, one of the great independent bookstores in our state. I always have a great time whenever I visit Lemuria, and I’m looking forward to seeing friends!
I’ll be heading back to Columbus for our summer commencement on July 25, so that will be all my events for July, but I’m already planning a few things for August and September, so I’ll have an update before long!
And remember, I’ll be on sabbatical in the fall and able to travel, so if anyone would like me to come give a reading near you, let me know!
